Building Word Weaver with Next.js

When I set out to build Word Weaver, I wanted a blogging platform that felt fast, modern, and worth showing in a portfolio. Next.js App Router turned out to be the perfect foundation.

The decision to consolidate frontend and API into a single codebase simplified deployment dramatically. No more juggling separate Vercel and Cloudflare Workers deployments — everything lives in one Next.js project.

Prisma with PostgreSQL gives us type-safe database access, and the combination of server components and route handlers makes the architecture clean and predictable.

If you're building a personal project, start simple. Ship the core loop — write, publish, read — and polish from there.
